Kindergarten Music
"Children express themselves through movement and individual and group musical activities, songs and games. They listen to and begin to appreciate a variety of musical instruments and different kinds of music." (http://education.alberta.ca/media/312892/kindergarten.pdf)
I believe that musical education is important to start at an early age. Music helps children to express themselves, interact with others, and develop different parts of the brain. In our Kindergarten music classroom we will be doing exploration with different instruments and sounds as well as singing songs with familiar tunes, repetitive lyrics and a variety of actions. We will also be working on concepts such as patterns, movement, rhythm, melody, harmony, form and expression including tempo, dynamics and tone colour.
The Kindergarten classes will also have at least 2 opportunities to perform for an audience. They will practice and perform a song for the Winter Concert and they will also do the introduction for the musical that will take place in the spring.
